Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has resumed bowling in the nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) while recovering from a lower back injury that has kept him out of competitive cricket since January 2025. A viral video shows the 31-year-old Mumbai Indians pacer practicing in the nets, sparking hopes of his return to cricket.

Bumrah 's last competitive match was the fifth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in January 2025, where he bowled only in the first innings. He was initially selected for India's provisional Champions Trophy 2025 squad but was later replaced by Harshit Rana due to his back injury.

"Bumrah has started bowling in NCA. Don't know when he will get the clearance but feeling better after watching this clip," reads a social media post dated March 30, 2025.

His absence has affected Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 , as the team lost their first two matches - against Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets on March 23 and against Gujarat Titans by 36 runs on March 29.

Mumbai Indians are set to face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders in their third league match on March 31 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While Bumrah is certain to miss the match, reports suggest he might return to action by mid-April.

Bumrah's IPL career began with Mumbai Indians on April 4, 2013, against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, where he took three wickets for 32 runs in four overs.

Over the past 12 years, the Ahmedabad-born bowler has represented Mumbai Indians in 133 IPL matches, claiming 165 wickets. He is among only four bowlers in IPL history to have achieved two five-wicket hauls.
